How are you doing?

July 27th, 2007 by paulz

In this post I wrote about turning into my father. Well, one thing I know peeves him, and is starting to annoy me, is that when you ask, “How are you doing?” The response is almost always, “Good.” That is the answer to the question, “What are you doing?”

So why bring that up? Well, because doing good has no value, it is a complete waste of time. Have I finally gone off my rocker? No. Doing good has no use because we cannot be justified by anything we do. We are saved by the grace of God. Anything you do now, if not motivated completely by a response to grace, is a complete waste.

If we seek to credit our account by doing things that seem good, we are an even bigger sinner (Gal 2:18).

So the real question here is not how, or what, but, “Why are you doing?”
